Ok, the title had been decided and we had a pretty good idea of had qualified for the European places but relegation was still an option for four different teams. Middlesbrough had to visit West Ham and had to win to stand any chance of surviving, they lost and subsequently went down, Sunderland and Hull could both afford to lose their games and hope other results went there way, this is actually what happened, Sunderland lost 3-2 at home to Chelsea and league champions Manchester United took a weakened side to Hull and battled out a 1-0 victory but none of this mattered as the biggest surprise of the season was unveiling at Villa Park where one of the so called ‘bigger’ teams in Newcastle were beaten 1-0 and relegated.
