With a total prize fund of over £1million, it is no wonder it was a real battle for first place. Of course, the total prize fund doesn’t just go to the winner though as there are a number of other cash prizes awarded. The winner received a cool quarter of million pounds and that lucky player this year was John Higgins. This was his third World Championship title of his career. Will the UK sports betting odds reflect this achievement?

John Higgins battled it out in the final against Shaun Murphy and Murphy no doubt thought, he would be a much closer competitor but Higgins was just too good. Higgins got through his first round with no trouble and in the second round, met Jamie Cope. This proved to be a nail biter as two members of the audience had to receive medical treatment for fainting! Higgins was losing 12-10 but managed to pull it back.

Playing the world number 4 in the quarter finals also played havoc with the nerves as this went to the last few frames. The semi-finals saw Higgins have a good start and leading at one point 13-3 but his opponent, Mark Allen, pulled some frames back but it eventually finished 17-13 to Higgins. He met Shaun Murphy in the final and eventually went on to win 18-9, lifting his third world title!
